Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
As a magician I have a great deal of variety of shows to offer, with a broad spectrum of prices. If you're a band, for instance, whether you do one song, or 100...whether you perform in a garage, nightclub or stadium, performing for 5 people or 500,000...your setup is the same. I my case, my amount of setup is quite different depending on the venue, audience, and type of show. Therefore I have a lot of flexibility on price. So, tell me your budget and expectations, and I'll do everything in my ability to deliver.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Questions, conversation, and more questions. It's of paramount importance that I please the client by providing exactly what they want at a price in their budget. So, it all starts with communication, leading to decisions to perform the best show possible.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My experience is the tens of thousands of shows over a 35 year career. Additional training, that's been remarkably helpful, is the work I've done in radio and television. My work in broadcast media has been a nice set of skills to help round out my on-stage performances.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I grew up in community theater. I was in a lot of plays as a kid, and discovered that I had a talent for comedy, especially. , But, since we only did a few productions each year, I needed a way to perform on my own. I saw a magician at an amusement park I was working at during the summer, and thought that was the perfect answer.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
In no particular order....amusement/theme parks, shopping malls, schools, universities, agents, event planners, casinos, corporations, dinner theaters, radio, television, fairs, restaurants....

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A local mall contracted me to make Santa magically appear. They wanted me to do a magic show, and make him appear at the end. Instead, I wrote an entire show (a play, really...) that used illusion elements so that Santa could make himself magically appear. I mean, come on...Santa doesn't need a magician...he's magic all by himself...right?

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look for experience. Many performers are, kind of, weekend warriors. As such, they haven't done enough shows to be adaptable. They haven't acquired the intuition to understand the nuances that can make a show great.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Do you understand the purpose/theme of my event? Have you worked in this type of environment before? What can you do to make it successful?
